Sun Mingyang is definitely the star from last round as she won 3-0 over Wang Manyu and ended Shandong Luneng's winning streak. Bayi Nanchang will be playing against another strong team Hongan Niuye. Many may find Round 4 was just not quite the CTTSL we are used to or the results did not turn out the way we would have predicted. It's never easy to compete with a jet lag and tired body but with a few days to go to Round 5 hopefully the athletes will make their way out. 2018 CTTSL is back after a one-month hiatus! This Throwback Thursday is looking back at some of those moments at the Asian Games just to in honour of the 2018 Asian Games which will take place this weekend, from 26 August to 1 September in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It has been a longstanding tradition for the Chinese national team to play warm-up matches before major international meets. The 2018 Asian Games warm-up match is designed to prepare the Asian Games squad for the forthcoming Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. Coming up this weekend, on 18 & 19 August, athletes will play the team and mixed doubles events at the warm-up match in Chengdu, China.

On 26 August, the top table tennis players in Asia will contend for team, singles and the mixed doubles events at the 2018 Asian Games touched down in Jakarta, Indonesia. Among the teams, China, the defending team champion in both the men's team and women's team events, will send a squad of young hopefuls instead of the experienced Olympians. CCTV 5 produced a program about the Chinese squad for the 2018 Asian Games. We have subbed the program with English subtitles. STTA announces its 2018 Asian Games squad on 29 July. The women's team will be represented by Yu Mengyu, Lin Ye, Zhou Yihan, Zhang Wanling and Feng Tianwei. Meanwhile, the men will not send a full team to the Games having Gao Ning the only male player on the squad.

The Hong Kong Table Tennis Association has named players set to compete at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, to be held from 26 August to 1 September. The men's lineup is the same as the 2018 World Team Championships squad consisting of Wong Chun Ting, Jiang Tianyi, Ho Kwan Kit, Lam Siu Hang and Ng Pak Nam. Whereas the women's team has four of the World Championships team members, Lee Ho Ching, Doo Hoi Kem, Ng Wing Nam, Soo Wai Yam Minnie in addition to Li Ching Wan.

CTTA made its final decisions regarding the men's team and women's team for 2018 Asian Games to be held in Jakarta from 26 August to 1 September. The lineup does not include all the big names who competed at the 2018 World Team Championships this April but a few promising young stars who will be competing at their first Asian Games.

Halfway through the year, CTTA issues the rankings for the second quarter of 2018 on 6th July. Fan Zhendong and Zhu Yuling climb one place replacing Ma Long and Ding Ning respectively and come first on the listings.

20 athletes from the men's A-Team, B-Team and the provincial team went through a round robin competition vying for a spot on the men's A-Team. After 19 rounds of matches, the top 8 finishers of the internal promotion competition, Xu Yingbin, Zheng Peifeng, Sun Wen, Yu Ziyang, Zhao Zihao, Xu Haidong, Xu Chenhao and Ren Hao, have secured their spots on the men's A-Team.

Hi everyone. I’m sorry I’ve not been updating after the World Championships because I got a cold after following days of competition in the midnight. I’m back and will be writing those unfinished recap and translated interviews soon. But what comes first is the Hong Kong Open!!!

It’s been a long time that Hong Kong has last hosted an event like this. As I recall, the last event that is comparable to the Hong Kong Open is the Pro Tour Grand Finals in 2006 (which is my first time watching table tennis competition live on site). Therefore I decided to grab this precious opportunity and watch the entire competition live on site. I’ll be making updates on the newly launched Facebook page!!! The finals are yet to come but it is definitely a big day in table tennis history. As the DPR. Korea and Korea team will form a Unified Korea team and play against Japan in the women's team semifinal at the 2018 World Team Championships on Friday morning (4 May) in Sweden time. Once again in history, table tennis helps initiate a collaboration between the two Koreas since the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan.

Team Hong Kong is no stranger to the table tennis world. In the last 20 years, the team which heavily relied on in-coming players was a frequent medalist at table tennis tournaments. Although the team missed out the podium in the 2016 World Championships ending up fifth in Kula Lumpur, the team comes in this year with a bright and young squad of mostly locally-trained players and is striving for a podium finish in Halmstad, Sweden at the 2018 World Championships. ITTF President Thomas Weikert disclosed details of mixed doubles at 2020 Tokyo Olympics during the launch of ITTF Museum in Shanghai on 31 March. According to his reply, there will be 16 pairs of mixed doubles competing at the 2020 Olympics. Associations can compete in all 5 events but the number of athletes remains unchanged, 3 men and 3 women at most. How would the Chinese build their team to win 5 gold medals in Tokyo? Will there be one or even two triple-gold medalist at the 2020 Olympics?

On 18 April, CTTA releases the rankings of the top 50 Chinese men and women players. The rankings are based on the singles results (and results of singles matches in team competitions) at international and domestic competitions at both the senior and junior category, as well as table tennis leagues (including CTTSL, division 1 and division 2). Olympic champion as well as captain of the Chinese national team, Ma Long and Ding Ning ranked first.

The Hong Kong table tennis team met the media at Hong Kong Sports Institute yesterday (on 11 April). The World team led by Wong Chun Ting and Lee Ho Ching will be leaving for the 2018 World Table Tennis Championships on 20 and 22 April and hunt for a podium finish in Halmstad, Sweden.

It has been a longstanding tradition for the Chinese national team to play warm-up matches before major international meets. The 2018 WTTC warm-up match is designed to prepare the World Team members for the forthcoming World Championships in Halmstad, Sweden. What comes before the 2018 World Team Championships? You may have guessed it right. The Commonwealth Games in the full swing but what comes much-anticipated is the 2018 Asian Cup being held from 6 to 8 April in Yokohama, Japan, the host city of 2009 World Championships. 16 men and 16 women from Asian countries will be vying for the Asian Cup title and make their shot to the Individual World Cup scheduled in September (women) and October (men) this year.

Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Chuqin for the men; and the women, Ding Ning, Zhu Yuling, Liu Shiwen, Chen Meng and Wang Manyu were named to the 2018 World Championships team last week. The last few days have been a roller-coaster. The withdrawal of Zhang Jike, the introduction of the 'new' rules for the trials and Wang Chuqin...It feels so long but finally, it has come to an end and I am ready to speak about the squad for the 2018 World Championships.

As always, the Chinese National Team will have an one-month closed-door training before the 2018 World Championships scheduled from 29 April to 6 May, in Halmstad, Sweden. The women's team will be based in Huangshi, Hubei while Xiamen, Fujian for the men. What comes before the closed-door training are the Chinese trials for 2018 WTTC. The men's trials will be held from 15-17 March and 16-17 March for the women.

With months to go until the 2018 World Team Championships and 2018 Asian Games, Japan officially announced the squad for the two tournaments.
