The 24 teams are divided into 4 groups of 6. The winner of each group will advance to the quarterfinals directly while the second and third team of each group will play the round of 16 to compete for the remaining spots for the quarterfinals.

ReplyDeleteOf course! On both counts! The question is not will China retain their crowns but whom they must play to do so. For the women, Japan appears to be the only worthy opponent; for the men, I am unsure. I still cannot fathom that Japan was so comprehensively beaten by Liam Pitchford, err, I mean, England. By the way, how nice would it be to watch Liam Pitchford play Truls Morgen?
