13th Chinese National Games: Their Goals

I'm way more excited for the 13th Chinese National Games than I've been in a really long time, because there will be world-class Chinese table tennis athletes as well as upcoming future stars striving for 7 titles in 10 days. The Games will take place from 28 August to 6 September in Tianjin. With 3 days to go and no news about the draw of the single events, let's have a look at the goals of each team and athlete at the 13th Chinese National Games.

CNG Throwback: More Than A Victory, A Breakthrough

The Chinese National Games table tennis event is always ended with a spectacular men's singles finals. The table tennis men's singles champion at the Games does not only represents the highest level of Chinese table tennis but sometimes means a lot more to the athlete himself. Our last CNG Throwback will revisit the men's singles semifinals at the 2013 Chinese National Games.

CNG Throwback: The End Of The Penhold Heyday

How often do we see a female penholder playing in the semifinals or later rounds in the women's singles? Penholders used to have prestigious achievements in the past. However the shakehanders are the majority of the table tennis world in nowadays. We seldom find penholders in the women's field (Shan Xiaona, Ni Xialian and Zhang Qiang to name a few) not to mention in the later rounds of the competition. CNG throwback is going to cover the bronzer medal match of the women's singles at 2005 Chinese National Games. A match between penholder and shakehander.

CNG Throwback: Win Like A Warrior, March Like A Champion

The fun part of the team event is not just because there are more matches and having a second chance of winning another match and make a comeback even losing the first or two matches but also there will be a team cheering and supporting you during the competition. CNG Throwback will feature the men's team final at the 2009 Chinese National Games where Team PLA showed a strong team spirit.

CNG Throwback: When Champion Is Not About 1 Person

Table tennis is, sometimes, a lonely sport, because it is often focused on the individual. Most of the glory comes from the singles and doubles events. While there are team competitions where table tennis players come together and build off one another and produce amazing results. Today's CNG Throwback covers the 2005 Chinese National Games women's team finals where 15-year-old Ding Ning won her first Chinese National Games champion alongside with her Beijing teammates.

13th Chinese National Games: Men's Doubles Preview

In the past week, we have watched some men's doubles competitions from the past Games. If I have to describe the men's doubles competition in one sentence, I might want to borrow a quote from Forrest Gump. "Men's doubles competition at the Chinese National Games is like a box of chocolate!" You never know who is going to win. It's unpredictable, dramatic, exciting and enjoyable to watch! So let's get into it right away (catch up the CNG intro, XD preview and WD preview here).

CNG Throwback: A Sweet Revenge But Not The Best Ending

Sometimes, though, it is not the finals nor the semifinals and we remember the match well. Perhaps we are left with a strong conviction that had the players not confronted at the early round of the competition, they would have ended up on the podium or the match is as exciting or even more exciting than the finals. Below, CNG Throwback looks at the 2009 Chinese National Games men's doubles finalists at 2013 Chinese National Games!

CNG Throwback: Back-To-Back 7-Game Thriller

Is the previous CNG Throwback (2005 men's doubles finals) captivating, especially the various soft touches played by Ma Lin and Zhang Chao? While some might think it is a bit "old-school" as we are more used to see powerful loops and quick counter-attacks nowadays. CNG Throwback will take a look at a relatively more recent competition, 2009 Chinese National Games men's doubles final which is full of fantastic forehand loops, notably from the forehand masters Wang Liqin and Xu Xin.
