What's your pick of the 2018 World Team Championships podium?

Right after the Chinese trials, the team headed to the training base for closed-door training. You know what? Like last year, they have a wall of potential opponents for the upcoming Championships! I call this a 'Major Opponent Wall for 2018 WTTC'.

Shown below is the Wall for the men's team, while that for the women's team is yet to be revealed.

It stated the first-tier of opponents include Korea, Germany and Japan.
The secon-tier comprised of Portugal, France, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Sweden and Great Britain.

    1. I think Hugo Calderano was on 'the wall' last year. You can check my article 'The First Closed-Door Training of the Quad'. Truls Moregard is indeed a rising star from Sweden (he won over Yu Ziyang at German Open). Fingers crossed and let's see how far he will make.

  2. The group stage for groups A and C should be quite entertaining, though the final results overall should be similar to the Team World Cup, I think!

    1. So true! I will call group A and C the group of death. Bad news for the home team, Sweden, or we might see some interesting matches from the group stage.

Do you think the different playing systems will lead to a different result? I believe the third place is pretty wide open.

  3. Interesting that they have assumed Pär Gerell to be part of the Swedish outfit. For the moment, the Swedish team consists of Kristian Karlsson, Mattias Karlsson, Anton Källberg and Jon Persson, with the fifth player to be decided after the German Open. There is a lot of speculation in "table tennis Sweden" about whether the final spot will go to Pär Gerell or Truls Möregårdh. To be continued, I guess...

    1. Great observation! Perhaps the Chinese think the Swedish team should have Par Gerell on the Worlds team? Who will be your pick?
