Quick Notes
1. MS: It's quite a fight in the first half of the main draw with members of the Asian Games Squad, Lin Gaoyuan, Liang Jingkun and Wang Chuqin, all have the odds of making the podium with the "Big Four" sitting out the competition. Meanwhile, in the bottom half, Fang Bo, Zhang Chao, Yu Ziyang, Xue Fei and Yan An are some of the contenders whom you would like to keep an eye on.
2. WS: Good News! Ding Ning decided to compete in the women's singles. The women's singles' field at the 2018 Chinese National Championships has shown the incredible depth and talent of the Chinese team. Ding Ning aside, Zhu Yuling, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu in the top half and Chen Xingtong, Chen Meng in the bottom half are very capable of topping the podium. It really depends on who has a good day, but Zhu Yuling with 3 women's singles national title from 2014-2016 under her belt might give her extra confidence coming into the meet.
3. MS R64: Early exit for veteran Shang Kun, losing 3-4 in round of 64, to 15-year-old Xiang Peng who made his out there at the 2017 Chinese National Games.
4. MS R64: A mesmerizing 7-game thriller played between Zheng Peifeng and Yang Shuo in the round of 64. Zheng Peifeng was slightly better off in terms of consistency and ball placement and won the 7th game 19-17.
5. WS R64: Heroine of the 2018 women's team national champion team, Wang Yidi shocked out of round of 64 by losing 3-4 to Zhang Zhao representing Beijing.
6. Your 2018 Chinese national champion, Wang Manyu (women) and Liang Jingkun (men). It is the first time for both players to win a single title at the national championships. Congratulations!

I'm sad because ML, FZ, XX and ZJ don't play.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great tournament anyway, because China has many excellent players who do not come out to compete outside of their country.
LG should not be happy at all to have ZP so early on this way.
You do a great job with your Blog. Thank you very much!
Thanks! I hope you like the blog. Indeed Lin Gaoyuan had to play against Zheng Peifeng on an early round but this time he won. I haven't watched that match but perhaps he had learnt a lesson from the team semifinals! Let me know what are the moments you remember from this tournament, just to check if I have missed any highlights of the tournament in my upcoming recap. Thank you!
