Zhang Jike concluded 2017 National Games empty handed but he has contributed many captivating matches at the Games.
The team he belongs to, Team Shandong ended at the quarterfinals losing Team PLA and he himself lost to 21-year-old Zhou Kai at the men's singles round of 16. However we all know his effort to retain his form, we all feel his persistence against injuries, we all see his maturity and fighting spirit in the competition. CCTV 5 has done reports and summary of Zhang Jike's story at the National Games in Tianjin and I have translated them.
It is uneasy for a veteran to maintain his competitiveness, let alone,overcoming injuries and facing people's expectation. His results may not be ideal but his effort, spirit and maturity have impressed me and many other table tennis lovers. We don't know how many more competitions he will play. Let's cherish the times he plays table tennis.
