Perhaps you, like me, have already treated the 2020 Mock Olympics held in August was the Chinese Nationals and did not anticipate a real Chinese Nationals to be held this soon. In charitable effort to put fun back in life, China decided to hold the 2020 Chinese Nationals on 1-10 October, over the Golden Week holiday, which is a week of holiday in China that celebrates the Chinese National Day and Moon Festival (I'm extremely rad!!!). We'll put all the information you need to follow the Nationals in this post.

[30 Sep Update] Physical Ability Testing Comes Out Hot On The Heels
Many worried the newly implemented physical abilities testing would rule out top favourites, leaving a limited field to the Nationals, which did happen to other disciplines such as swimming and artistic gymnastics. Fortunately, everyone from the table tennis team (288 players in total) passes the test :) Thank you! I am ready to enjoy some good table tennis and I know it is going to be awesome, even without the physical ability test, because it is the Chinese Nationals.
[27 Sep Update] You'd better run fast to qualify for the Nationals
4 days to go and we still don't know who is going to compete at the Nationals. Perhaps we will find out the roster when the draws are announced...Or... we might know who is NOT going to compete when the results for the physical ability testing is out.
In 2020, the General Administration of Sports of China required athletes of every sports discipline to take a physical ability test in order to put more emphasis on athletes' physical abilities. The physical ability test for table tennis athletes includes 30-meter sprint, standing long jump, rope skipping double under, core muscle endurance test, back muscle endurance test and other footwork tests. Those who fail the test would be disqualified from the 2020 Chinese Nationals. We all know strong quads and quick footwork produce good table tennis. The question is whether we need a physical ability test to verify a table tennis champion. I will leave that to you but this test would definitely be a challenge for older athletes and those who are battling against injuries. Fingers crossed that 2018 national champion Hou Yingchao and 2019 world champion Ma Long would pass the test!
[24 Sep Update] About the venue--the BEST competition hall in Wang Nan's own words
Howdy, I can't wait to tell you that the 2020 Chinese Nationals will begin in 7 days but there isn't much I could add because details of the Nationals are yet to be officially announced. I guess the thing that many of us have learned in 2020 is that life doesn't always go our way. We have to work with what we've got. So, instead of including faces of athletes in the featured image causing unnecessary confusions and predictions, I decided to adopt the bird's-eye view of the confirmed competition venue, the Weihai Nanhai New District Olympic Center which will be hosting ITTF's restart series events, including the Women's World Cup, the Men's World Cup and the 2020 ITTF Finals in November.
Olympic champion Wang Nan, who invests and runs the Agile Sports and Recreational Featured Town Project located in Weihai, Shandong, said the Olympic Center is a world-class sports cluster, which is fully capable of accommodating hundreds of athletes and hosting mega sports events like the World Championships that comprised of 7 events. Nothing shows the truth better than a video, let's watch this sneak peek of the Chinese National team training for the Nationals at the Olympic Center.
