[10 Oct] Men's Singles & Women's Doubles SF~Final
MS Final: A super spectacular match played between Ma Long and Fan Zhendong It reminds me of the 2017 Worlds men's singles finals or this might be a pre-match of the men's World Cup finals coming up this month!
WD Final: Other than that slight immaturity Sun Yingsha made in game 6 at 8-7 insisting the ball had touched Wang Manyu's shirt, it is a magnificent women's double match with rallies played at lightning speed and monstrous power.
MS SF: Liang Jingkun had a great start but he showed inconsistency at critical moments failing to save several game points. Fan Zhendong seized the opportunity and headed to the finals winning 4-1.
MS SF: Wang Chuqin has already tried his best utilizing those efficient backhand flicks and persevere forehand blocks but the versatility and extra 12-year experience Ma Long holds set them apart.
WD SF: The performance of Chen Yi / Kuai Man is quite impressive despite a 4-1 loss. Although the power and quality of their strokes couldn't match their opponents Chen Meng / Wang Manyu, Kuai Man's backhand flicks and Chen Yi's forehand can pose threats to the duo which later crowned the women's doubles champion.
WD SF: It was quite a straightforward game for Sun Yingsha / Wang Yidi until the penholder duo Zhang Qiang / Qi Fei played several quick forehand strokes and won game 3, otherwise Sun Yingsha / Wang Yidi dominated the match.
[9 Oct] Women's Singles & Men's Doubles SF~Final
WS Final: Chen Meng wins her first women's singles national title. Congrats!
The finals didn't go the way we expected as the expedite rule was applied in game 3 at 9-8. We often see the rule being applied in matches with choppers competing as their rallies usually take up more time making it hard to reach 9-9 within 10 minutes but it is rare to come across such practice in an all-attacker match as stonewalling won't bring any benefits. IMHO, game 3 is the most captivating part of the final but it was ruined when the umpires stepped in and started counting the number of returns. So, Chen Meng defeats defending champion Sun Yingsha within 4 games with a fairly comfortable margin.
MD Final: Xu Xin/ Ma Long topped the men's double podium again after 5-year wait. They won 4-1 over 2019 Asian Championships champion Lin Gaoyuan / Liang Jingkun. In fact, Lin Gaoyuan / Liang Jingkun had a strong start in the first 3 games and saved a few game points in the second and third but they couldn't prevent their opponent any longer.
MD SF: The performance of the choppers Hou Yingchao / Ma Te are surprisingly good. Never have I expected they would win a game from the 2011 World champion Ma Long / Xu Xin who are very competent at countering against choppers. Though the choppers failed to defend their way to the final, I think they have staged the match of the day.
MD SF: Both pairs, Liang Jingkun / Lin Gaoyuan and Fan Zhendong / Wang Chuqin, share similar playing style. It turned out the former pair made fewer mistakes and won 4-2.
WS SF: Chen Meng was on her own game. Agile and aggressive, she left no chance for Wang Manyu and took it 4-0 to move ahead in the final.
WS SF: The semifinals is just a walk in a park for Sun Yingsha. A 4-0 victory over Gu Yuting tells it all.
[8 Oct] Doubles QF & Singles R16~QF
WS QF: Gu Yuting staged an incredible comeback winning 4-3 over Wang Yidi.
WS QF: Chen Meng is too strong to be defeated in this match. She recovered from a 2-9 deficit in game 1 and outplayed Qian Tianyi who has incredible perseverance and a bit of luck in the rallies.
WS QF: It seems that Sun Yingsha has the tendency of losing her focus when she takes the lead. Other than that wacky game 5, she plays as if in a league of her own, winning 4-2 over Chen Xingtong.
MS QF: Which goes first when it comes to power and speed? Power, because it starts with a P. Bad joke, but Liang Jingkun proves it with a 4-2 victory over Lin Gaoyuan who is known for his speedy return. Liang Jingkun said he suffered a knee pain in the middle in the match and had to call a medical time-out in game 5 but, apparently, he was still good enough to make his way to the semifinals.
MS QF: Wang Chuqin once again upset Xu Xin after last night's mixed doubles final encounter. It seems that speed and backhand are Xu Xin's nemesis and there are no ways for him to counter back Wang Chuqin's powerful strokes.
MS R16: Niu Guankai went all out and forced Fan Zhendong to recover from a 0-2 deficit.
MS R16: Lin Gaoyuan ended hopes of the defending champion Hou Yingchao with a landslide victory.
WD QF: The rising stars of the Chinese women's team Chen Yi / Kuai Man, whom we introduced yesterday showed great chemistry and will have a women's doubles medal under their belt.
WD QF: The penholder pairs Qi Fei / Zhang Qiang shocked out women's doubles seed Chen Xingtong / Gu Yuting.
MD QF: Surprise, surprise! We have choppers Hou Yingchao / Ma Te making to the men's doubles podium!
misc.: Just in case you've missed our reports from the previous days and wonder why are Zhu Yuling, Liu Shiwen and Ding Ning not competing in the women's singles, here's a short answer to it.
1.) Zhu Yuling only competed in the team event because she is recovering from an immune system problem.
2.) Liu Shiwen is rehabilitating from an elbow surgery and Ding Ning is taking a break after an intense closed-door training. Both of them did not take part in the 2020 Chinese Nationals.
3.) Zhu Yuling and Liu Shiwen withdrew the upcoming 2020 Women's World Cup and will be substituted by Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha.
[7Oct] XD SF~Final & Doubles R32~16 &Sigles R32
XD Final: Wang Chuqin / Wang Manyu topped mixed doubles podium. Top favourites Xu Xin / Sun Yingsha settled for second. The 'Wangs' are very efficient in their returns posing troubles to Xu Xin's backhand. I would like to give a thumbs-up to Wang Manyu in Wang Chuqin's style (the subtle one in game 3 after Wang Manyu playing that incredible soft swap across the table at 3-3). She is impressive tonight.
XD SF: It was a close match played between Xu Xin / Sun Yingsha and Lin Gaoyuan / Sun Mingyang. Speed is the biggest threat to the winner of this match.
XD SF: I haven't got the chance to watch it but I believe it should be an exciting one. Wang Chuqin / Wang Manyu 4-1 Liu Dingshuo / Qian Tianyi.
WD R16: Meet Chen Yi / Kuai Man the young generation of the women's team. Chen Yi, the tallest among the four, has just been promoted to Team A after finishing in the top 16 at the Mock Olympics held in August.
MS R32: Defending champion Hou Yingchao is still in the run. He made to the round of 16 after a 3-1 victory over Wang Bo.
MD R32: The choppers Hou Yingchao / Ma Te defend their way to the quarterfinals.
[6 Oct]: More Prelims & XD R64~QF & Singles R64
XD QF: Biggest upset of the day, no.2 seeds Fan Zhendong / Chen Meng bowed out at quarterfinals losing 2-4 to Liu Dingshuo / Qian Tianyi
XD QF: I'm about to catch up the match played between Liang Jingkun / Gu Yuting and Wang Chuqin / Wang Manyu.
XD R16: Xu Xin / Sun Yingsha starts off the mixed doubles competition with a 4-0 victory over Yu Ziyang / Chen Xingtong. The numbers simply didn't reflect how spectacular this match was played. My jaws dropped because of those quick and seamless collaboration between players.
MS R64: About the veterans...Zhang Chao and defending champion Hou Yingchao made to the round of 32 with the former defeating 2018 Team World Cup champion Yu Ziyang and the latter winning over Yu Heyi.
misc.: Withdrawals...Hao Shuai withdrew the competition due to health issue. Liu Fei and Zhou Qihao who had outstanding performance in the team competitions a few days ago also withdrew the competition.

[4 Oct]: MT/WT Finals
MT: What a comeback for Guangdong! Don't ask, don't hesitate, just click and watch.
WT: Hebei upsets defending champion with an unexpected 3-0 victory at the finals and crowned the women's team champion. It is, overall, a spectacular final. The first game of the third match is surprisingly well-played between young players Zang Xiaotong and Wang Xiaotong.
[3 Oct]: MT/WT QF &SF
[2 Oct]: MT/WT Stage 1 & R16
WT: Jiangsu shocked out Liaoning with a 3-2 victory. I'm about to catch up the match tonight!!!
MT: Shanghai settled for a disappointing 3rd place and did not make the main draw despite winning 3-2 over Hebei which placed first in the group. The performance of Liang Yanning of Hebei brings surprises.
misc.: Finally, we get a live stream!!! ITTF is streaming table 1 live on their Youtube channel.
[1 Oct]: MT/WT Stage 1
MT: Hebei stirs up drama in Group C defeating Heilongjiang 3-1. Tomorrow's match played between Hebei and Shanghai will be a decider of the final rankings for group stage. Great comeback from 0-2 deficit for Cheng Jingqi of Hebei against Xu Yingbin. And the match played between Wang Bo and Zhai Chao shows that table tennis is not just about speed and power but the control matters as well.
MT: Heilongjiang wins 3-1 over podium contender Shanghai which is led by Xu Xin and Zhao Zihao. Wang Bo plays a pivotal role in the match as his victory over Zhao Zihao and Xu Xin gives Team Heilongjiang a great start and increase their chance to advance to the main draw.
misc.: About live stream. There are quite a number of online platforms streaming the Chinese Nationals but you have to be mainland China users in order to watch them. I did find full length replays which is accessible publicly regardless of the users' IP address but other than that I haven't come across any ways to watch the Nationals live outside mainland China. Perhaps, a live scoring system will save the day.
