The match of the day goes to Shanghai Vs Guangdong in the women's team.
The 2 teams fought for one spot to Tianjin (the final stage). Liu Shiwen took 2 points for Team Guangdong but without a dependable teammate to win a point, team Shanghai won the game by 3-2 and will be competing in Tianjin in late-August. What a pity not to have Liu Shiwen leading the team to the Chinese National Games. This is the beauty of team events, an overall strength weighs more than a super-star player.
This concludes the team events. In general, the strong teams (men's: Beijing, Heilongjiang, Hebei and Guangdong; women's: Heilongjiang, Shandong and PLA) are able to qualify to the Chinese National Games with a distinct lead. Whereas disappointment for Team Hubei and Liaoning, as they came so close to the qualification but missed the spot due to a competitive group. For the women's, this is the forth time that Liu Shiwen played for Team Guangdong in the prelims of the Chinese National Game but hardly has she led the team to the final stage. She has tried her best but cannot help with that. We wish her all the best in the coming events. Men's and women's singles and mixed doubles coming tomorrow!
Most of the favorites in the mixed doubles,including the Guangdong pair Lin Gaoyuan and Liu Shiwen, and the brand new doubles, Fan Zhendong and Zhu Yulin proceed to the next round. Yet it is unfortunate for some cross-province seeded pairs bowed out early in the first round. Shang Kun and Feng Yalan being defeated 3-2 is one of the great disappointment of the competition.
