Marvellous 12 Competition Format -- 2017 Chinese Trials for WTTC

Competition format of the Marvellous 12

Stage 1: Round robin of 12 players will play the best-of-3 format. The leader of stage 1 (Fan Zhendong & Liu Shiwen) will take the spot to wttc, skipping stage 2 and 3 of the Marvellous 12.

Stage 2: (the remaining 11 + 1 substitute player= 12 players) are drawn into 3 groups of 4 players and will play under the knock-out system, best-of-3 format.

Stage 3: The top player of each group will play a round robin (best-of-3). The winner of Stage 3 must win 2 consecutive matches. If 3 players have the same no. of wins, they will play a round robin again under the best-of-1, a 11-point set. If they draw again, they will play a set starting from deuce (10:10), until someone wins 2 consecutive games. The winner of stage 3 will take the second spot to WTTC 2017.

The Marvellous 12 trials will decide 2 men and 2 women spots for WTTC. The remaining 3 men and 3 women spots for the singles event will be decided by the coaches. There may be more players being sent to WTTC to participate in the doubles and mixed doubles events. After all, the coaches will decide the final line-up for WTTC.
