The Y2Klub: Sun Yingsha's Long-Time-Rival/Partner ,Qian Tianyi

There is a Chinese saying, "As in the Yangtze River, the waves behind ride on the ones before" which implies the younger generations excel the old. We are seeing more and more players of the millennial generation showing up in the international scene. As the 2017 Asian Junior and Cadet Championships will be held in 29 June, the Y2Klub series will introduce some Chinese players of the younger generations. Today's Y2Klub features Qian Tianyi, whom is Sun Yingsha's long-time-arch-rival and good friend.

If you have followed the previous Y2Klub post, you will hear about Qian Tianyi, the 17-year-old left-handed shakehander from Jiangsu. Like Sun Yingsha, she is also a promising young athlete who will be striving for the ticket to 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Qian Tianyi was intrigued by table tennis when she played table tennis for the first time in kindergarten. Beginning her elite path at the age of 9, Qian Tianyi consistently topped the podium in provincial and national competitions early on. She was the 2014 National Cadet Girls' Singles champion and made to the national team at the age of 14.

Despite having a glamorous achievements in both international and national competitions, Qian Tianyi has not yet moved up to the A Team as competition for the spots in the A Team is intense. Her goal is to make to the A Team and represent Team China in the Olympics. Qian Tianyi knows her weakness well. She mentioned that she is slow in getting into the zone and lacks power in both forehand and backhand. While her secret to maintain a good form is to have snacks and drinks which she loves like many teenagers.

As a left-handed player, she is a perfect player to pair up for doubles. The video shown below is a match of 2016 CTTSL where Qian Tianyi and Sun Yingsha, 2018 Youth Olympics hopefuls, played against veteran, Feng Yalan and 2014 Youth Olympic Champion Liu Gaoyang.

Look for Qian Tianyi at the 2017 China Junior & Cadet Open (21/6-25/6), Asian Junior & Cadet Championships (starting on 29/6) and the Chinese National Games (mixed doubles and women's team) in late-August. We can't wait how much she continues to improve and hope she achieves her goal soon.
