Liu Guoliang Updates His Weibo Since the Chengdu Three Incident!

Many concern about the incident that 3 top players, Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin, withdrawing the men's singles round of 16 in 2017 China Open on 23 June. There have not been many news about the incident other than the few statements made by the General Administration of Sports and CTTA. While the former head coach of the Chinese Table Tennis Team, Liu Guoliang, posted a post on his Weibo at 22:05 today.

The translation of the post as follow:

" 1. We are determined to follow the footstep of president Xi Jingping in deepening reform. China will become stronger under president Xi's leadership.

2. I think there is a need for reforming sports in China. There are many shortcomings in the management of the center and more functions should be given to the association to follow the trend of reform. Policies should benefit the long-term development of table tennis. I will not interrupt the reform because of keeping my post as a head coach. As the overall interest is more important. I will contribute my ability to push the reform in table tennis. As president Xi mentioned, as long as we are on the right path, there are no fear of the distance. I believe I see the hope in China's sports reform.

3. Chinese Table Tennis Team represents China in international competition. Nothing, including emotions, cannot affect the mission of fighting for national glory and national image. I did not know about the withdrawn of the competition beforehand. However these athletes and coaches used to train under me. This implies I have flaws in ideology education and management. Regarding this, I apologize to table tennis lovers on behalf of them. We are always " China's good kids" who are patriotic, true to live, friendly and righteous. Interest of the motherland shall be placed on top of everything and is always the value and faith of the Chinese Table Tennis Team.

I am touched but distressed at the same time. As at this critical moment, I find there are many close friends who have gone through the ups and downs with me in the past years and have accumulated years of friendships and teacher-student relationships. This incident has created hot debate in society. I feel uncomfortable about it. I can't predict and relate anything without evidence and there are no reason for smearing any individual and go against sports reform which will affect the preparation for 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Let's be united and follow the leadership of president Xi. Whenever you encounter difficulties, do not blame yourself, do not blame the others, do not lose confidence, do not escape from responsibility but face the difficulties together. History is created by courageous people, let's be confident, take action and move forward together."

The above is the content of Liu Guoliang's new post in his Weibo. There are not much new information but it seems that the reform must go on. It's the matter of how it will be carried out. Whereas the athletes and coaches might need to pay for their misbehavior in China Open but we have no idea what are the exact punishment for that. Stay tuned as we will update you whenever there are more details about the incident.
