Do you happen to know why Ma Te and Liu Fei were not competing in mixed doubles?
ReplyDeleteThe policy didn't allow cross-province pairing, except for the Olympics pair, therefore Ma Te and Liu Fei didn't do mixed doubles together at 2021 CNG. Ma Te did compete in mixed doubles with Zheng Hao, also member of Team Hubei, at the qualifying meet held in March but fell short in qualifying.
DeleteThe Olympic pairs (Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen) are given the privilege to partner regardless of the teams they belong to because CNG counts a significant part towards the achievement of a province and matters a lot to officials from the provincial sports bureau. In order to gain these officials' support to prepare for Tokyo and considering the Olympic pairs won't have much time to practise with their teammates in the provincial team after the Olympics, such exemption is made.
Thank you so much for the answer.
DeleteGreat answer!🏓🔛🔥
