CNG Throwback: A Crucial Timeout Made the Dramatic Comeback

As we have an overall picture of the field of the 13th Chinese National Games mixed doubles competition, CNG Throwback brings you more mixed doubles matches. Today we will go back in time for the mixed doubles final at 2009 Chinese National Games.

In the previous CNG Throwback, we have covered mixed doubles which have the combination of grand-slam players and world champions. Whereas in this CNG Throwback, we have mixed doubles matches with less-renowned players but as exciting as the matches we have seen in the previous posts.

At 2009 Chinese National Games mixed doubles finals, Wang Hao and Wen Jia representing Team PLA played against Zhai Yiming and Chang Chenchen, representing Team Liaoning. The pairs representing Liaoning made to the finals by defeating the Beijing doubles, Ding Ning and Yan An in the semifinals and they had a really good start in the finals heading to the 5th games with a 3-1 lead. The head coach of the PLA, Wang Tao (the one who won his second men's singles National Games title in 1997) made a crucial timeout at 8:6 in the 5th games, which dramatically change the momentum of the match. In the next 2 games, Wang Hao and Wen Jia made some amazing save and less mistakes and comeback with a 4-3 victory.

For those know who don't know who Zhai Yiming is, he was the 2006 Universiade mixed doubles champion and competed in 2011 Polish Open. He is now the head coach of Team Liaoning and Li Xiaoxia's husband to be. We might see him at the 13th Games coaching athletes from Team Liaoning. We wish him all the best and enjoy double happiness in both his coaching career and new life.

Although I make frequent updates so that I can include more CNG throwbacks before the Games starts, there are always more amazing matches than that I can include. No worries, I have created a playlist to include most of matches from the past Chinese National Games. If I have missed any matches, please remind me in the comment box, I will add them back to the playlist!
