"At the time full of challenges and competitions, I believe there is nothing other than courage can make people feel militant, there is nothing other than fulfilling one's dream can be more emotional, there is nothing other than pursuing success can be more wishful. I always remember the classic quote, 'Passion creates inspirations, competitions transform one's self.' and remind myself to move forward. Therefore, I apply for the national team coach of the men's team with these statements in mind." Wang Hao, the representative of the reverse penhold backhand, started his speech with a inspiring quote.
2-Year Coaching Career
Wang Hao retired in 2014 and has become the head coach of the PLA men's team since then. In the past 2 years he keeps in touch with national coach and national team athletes. He also involved in the close-door training and the preparation of the Rio Olympics. In the transition from an athletes to a coach, Wang Hao shared his experience in the 3 Olympics and other international meets. Then, Wang Hao summarized his 2-year coaching experience with 3 key points.
3 Main Themes of Coaching in the PLA Team
1. Improve Regulations, Improve Execution, Improve Morale, Create Team Spirit
The key to the continued success of the Chinese table tennis is the effort of the athletes and the team as well as effective regulations. In the past 2 years, Wang Hao has strengthened the team's ability based on the situation in the PLA team and build a team that can endure hardship and strive for champion. He believes only with these thoughts in mind, can the team improve it's strength and team spirit.
2. Plan Ahead, Build the Team
In the 2 years when Wang Hao returned to the PLA team, he stressed the importance of team building. He communicated with national coaches to learn the advance technique and the development of the sport. He also went to provincial and prefecture units to select talented young players. As for the PLA team, he made clear division of labor among coaches and set specific goals. He has learnt a lot from the national coaches and made breakthroughs by combining the technique and his specialties.
3. Deeper Understanding on Coaching
As a coach of the provincial level, Wang Hao felt that responsibility is essential. A coach who does not want to go through ups and downs with the team and does not have passion cannot be a good coach. Wang Hao has not forgotten the hard work of the national coaches when he became a coach. He gave up his family for the team.
Conclusion of the 2-year work: The 3 'Unchanged'
1. The passion for table tennis and the sense of mission and responsibility to the team and to the country will remain unchanged, as if they were when the senior coaches and officials pass down to us.
2. The good thoughts, good experience, good traditions, good practices and good technique will remain unchanged.
3. The courage of striving for the champion will remain unchanged.
Apply for National Coach
The national team was where Wang Hao peaked in his athlete career. He wish to pass down his experience in the national team and international meets to young athletes. Taking over the job of national coach means more responsibility and more pressure. From being an athlete to a coach, Wang Hao has devoted his life to table tennis and his initiative, striving for the champion, has never altered and will never be forgotten. He promised he will face the challenges positively and be earnest in his work as a national coach. All in all, to be a good national coach dose not only require for remembering the initiatives but also does he need to devote his hard work.
Pass Down the Essence of Chinese Table Tennis and Brand the Team's Image
The Chinese national team is not only the best of the country but the best of the world. It is also a team that emphasizes team spirits. Over the past decades, Chinese table tennis team is the role model of the Chinese sport sector. This is the result of generations of contribution. When young athletes join this honorable team, their goal is not just to improve their technique but also construct the sense of mission and strengthen their persistence. Wang Hao has confidence in passing down these good traditions to the next generation and sees this as his responsibility. At the same time, he would follow the footstep of the development of the sport and learn new ideas and methods from other aspects. He believes under the leadership of the head coach and the chief-coach, the team will have a brand new image.
Be Innovative, Push the Sport Forward
Coach Liu Guoliang always reminds us in competitive sports, the strong ones are always the innovators. Years ago, Cai Zhenhua suggested the backhand flick on a short serve, coach Wu Jingping further studied the technique and coach Liu Guoliang brushed up the details. This is how a technique being invented. The dominance of the Chinese team depends on the innovations made by the past generations. What Wang Hao means by innovation is not just innovation on the technique but also innovation in team management, training plan, training methods and other related aspects. Wang Hao would learn more about the relationship between passing down great traditions and making innovation. He hopes to contribute his effort and train more World and Olympic champions.
Time flies, only the hard-working will be rewarded. It is Wang Hao's quest to be a national coach as it can reveal his value. He would like to thank the leadership of Cai Zhenhua, the care of Liu Guoliang and the guidance of his coach Wujingping and the national coaching team and teammates who have helped him come this far. He would treat them as role models and pass down the collectivism and patriotism. Wang Hao said he would not be fear of challenges, devote himself to the job wholeheartedly, work earnestly, improve his management skills and assist the head coach and chief-coach to work towards 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
