  1. Losses by top chinese men in wttc and german open is the most
significant event. Does it signal the end of chinese men dominance? Certainly a cause for concern. There does not appeared to be any young up and coming men to fill the void. Coaching also a concern.

  2. 1. I'm going to have to say Timo Boll. He has made a remarkable recovery if you compare with just one year ago, when he had no chance against Quadri Aruna at the Olympics. A remarkable transition for someone at his age.
    2. Ding Ning. Three world championship gold medals speak for themselves
    3. Yuto Kizukuri and Tomokazu Harimoto. Prime contenders for the world championships in 2019, having beaten Xu Xin/Fan Zhendong twice. Runners up would be Jonathan Groth/Patrick Franziska, who have been remarkably successful despite representing different countries.
    4. This is difficult to say. Of course, the chinese are most of the time in a league of their own. But then again, Hina Hayata and Mima Ito have impressed me massively, especially at the Swedish Open.
    5. Not sure, really. Maharu Yoshimura/Kasumi Ishikawa, perhaps?
    6. I'm going to say Sun Yingsha here. Harimoto is amazing, but he has been for almost three years now, and can hardly be called a newcomer.
    7. Hrmph... 5-4 in the seventh game at the WTTC between Ding Ning and Zhu Yuling was extraordinary. But then again, so was the hand-switch shot of Feng Yalan at the trials. Can't decide between the two.
    8. An outlier, but I'm going to have to say Miyu Kato against Zhu Yuling at the Swedish Open, mostly because I saw it live. Fantastic match. On the men's side the match between Ovtcharov and Fan Zhendong at the German Open was extraordinary.
    9. The losses of the chinese men's team. But if I need to single out one particular moment it will have to be when Miu Hirano against all odds won the Asian Championships. It's always fun to watch an underdog come out on top.
