It has been three weeks from the first round of the 2017 CTTSL and we still haven't got the full schedule and official roster of the tournament. However CTTS has improved a bit by providing the time of each match for Round 2 in advance. Many table tennis lovers are understandably confused about who to keep an eye on at the 2017 CTTSL, so I put together a little guide which should hopefully clear things up.

Preview (Men's)
It supposed to be an intense battle between 2 big powers but considering the match will take place on 21 November, the day after players return to China from the 2017 Swedish Open, Shandong Luneng has far more depth than Shanghai Zhongxing. It is likely Shanghai Zhongxing will be heavily relying on Zhao Zihao, the promising young penholder who helped team Shanghai to win team gold at 2017 National Games and made to the A Team in the relegation trial recently. Whereas Shandong Luneng has the luxury of giving Fang Bo a break without significantly undermining the overall strength of the team. I am not sure whether the team will put Shang Kun in the line-up since their opponents are from the same pr and former teammate from 2016 CTTSL. It would be great if we can see Xu Yingbin, a post-00 upcoming player who has been active in international junior competitions in 2017, making his debut in CTTSL.
If you have no idea what to follow, I will highly recommend you to keep an eye on Shenzhen Baoan. The team has no big names on the team, other than veteran Hao Shuai, but can put surprises in the league. Xu Chenhao and Zheng Peifeng helped the team to complete a clean sweep over the star-studded Shandong Luneng in the last round and I honestly think they have the potential of doing it again in the second round. The dark horse will play against, one of the hopeful favorite for the top 4, Shandong Weiqiao in round 2. Shandong Weiqiao is a very strong team, even having Ma Long transferred to Tianjin Quanjian due to the new policy set by CTTA to balance the prowess of each team. The problem is whether Lin Gaoyuan and Yan An can pose a good performance after all the travelling.
The match between Jiangsu Zhongchao and Bazhou Hairun will be featuring mostly young and internationally less experienced players from China. The overall level of this match may be a tiny bit lower and less versatile but never underestimate the potential of the youth. The line-up of Bazhou Hairun remains mysterious as there are no official announcement about their team but as listed in the nominative roster, the team has Wang Chuqin and Niu Guankai, 2 out of 4 players who will be representing China to compete in the upcoming World Junior Championships. Nonetheless, the team is anchored by Liang Jingkun who has a disappointing Swedish Open but CTTSL is always his 'living room'. Let's see whether he could regain composure and lead the young team to win. Jiangsu Zhongchao armed with Zhang Yudong, Yang Shuo and Kong Lingxuan may not be in the mix of the top teams but when it comes to a battle among young athletes, the process can be surprisingly exciting.
The introduction of Ma Long should be a spur for Tainjin Quanjian but injuries have taken a big bite out of the team. The team lost the first round as Ma Long did not compete due to a wrists injury and this week, Liu Dingshuo injured himself at the Swedish Open and had to withdrew from the competition.Ma Long may be competing in this round but it is questionable whether the team is strong enough to compete against Sichuan Changhong, the silver-medal-winning team at 2017 Chinese National Games.
The last match of round 2 will take place on 22 Nov between Anhui Langkun and Bayi Dashang. Bayi Dashang coming into the competition as the defending champion and should have no problem of winning Anhui Langkun IF Fan Zhendong and Zhou Yu are going to play what they are capable of. Yu Ziyang and Zhou Qihao from Anhui Langkun might have a shot of making a flare-up in the competition if Bayi Dashang is not putting up their usual lineup or their players have a very bad day, otherwise, it will be an one-sided competition.
Preview (Women's)
Speaking of the women's field, the big showdown could be between Shandong Luneng and Changbai Mountain RCB. We have seen many Zhu Yuling Vs Wang Manyu encounters this year, like Chinese Trials, Chinese National Games, World Tour just to name a few. However I believe no one will be fed up by the battle between them and the good news is that we might see another Zhu Yuling Vs Wang Manyu encounter in round 2 of CTTSL.
I would also love to see Beijing Shougang and Shandong Qilu battle it out. Beijingg Shougang set an aggressive goal, being top 3, for this league (more of the story in this interview). This makes me look forward to seeing their first match (despite this is round 2 as their match for round 1 was re-scheduled to 12 December), especially facing one of the top 3 favorite in 2017 CTTSL, Shandong Qilu in round 2. What makes this match more worthwhile to follow is that we will probably see a re-match between Chen Xingtong and Ding Ning who put up an impressive women's singles finals at Swedish Open.
Opting for more variety? The match between Bayi Jingbo and Shenzhen University should be the match you are looking for. In the match, you will find defender, Hu Limei and short-pips player Mu Zi and Sun Mingyang from Bayi Jinbo. While Shenzhen University will be led by Chen Meng, the women's singles champion of German Open and Sun Yingsha, who has been preparing for the upcoming Junior World Championships.
The other 2 matches will have no live streaming but there are something to anticipate. Defending champion Wuhan Hundred Percent will be playing against Shanxi Datuhe with a huge advantage in terms of the overall strength. My concern is how good is Liu Shiwen recovering from her injury that forced her walking over the German Open. The match between Longfu Huanneng and Sichuan Qionglong will be a stage for young athletes to prove what they are capable of.
Just to have an idea who will be taking part in 2017 CTTSL, here is a nominative line-up for each team.
