Throwback Thursday: Asian Games, Where Chinese Don't Quite Dominate




It is a paradox that the Chinese have dominated the world's table tennis but not quite at the Asian Games. This Throwback Thursday is looking back at some of those moments at the Asian Games just to in honour of the 2018 Asian Games which will take place this weekend, from 26 August to 1 September in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It has been a longstanding tradition for the Chinese national team to play warm-up matches before major international meets. The 2018 Asian Games warm-up match is designed to prepare the Asian Games squad for the forthcoming Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. Coming up this weekend, on 18 & 19 August, athletes will play the team and mixed doubles events at the warm-up match in Chengdu, China.

On 26 August, the top table tennis players in Asia will contend for team, singles and the mixed doubles events at the 2018 Asian Games touched down in Jakarta, Indonesia. Among the teams, China, the defending team champion in both the men's team and women's team events, will send a squad of young hopefuls instead of the experienced Olympians.
